Confusing Panel, Episode 6: Quern

  • Published on

This episode starts with the torches and the round white button posts, and once the posts are done, a pedestal nearby holds something new: a brass panel of slats. Most of the video goes into that panel. Set into a rock wall beside a locked door, it shows a winding blue line, and none of the ways Basket tries to follow it opens anything. The video ends with the door still shut.

Torches and button posts

The orange torch goes back into the holder on the rock, and the button posts make "a different sound depending on the two torches." Basket runs back to the posts to check "all the buttons that this is involved with," pressing them one at a time. "Maybe it has to be in a certain order? Oooh, I figured it out." The game saves, and the posts are all "happy" and down.

A panel in the pedestal

"Something happened" because of those buttons. At a stone pedestal beside a white panel with three bars, "this is new": a brass panel of slats with a round grille at each end stands up out of it. Basket takes it.

The confusing panel

Turned over in the inventory, its slats press in, but "they don't stay," and shining blue or red light on it does nothing. Then it "seems like it might fit here," in a slot in the rock wall next to a door with a round lock, and it does. A blue winding line with an arrow at the bottom shows across the slats. "Oh, I thought I figured it out... I was really hoping that was the pattern I had to do."

Basket comes back to it again and again, clicking slats in different orders and twice on some. A viewer's idea is tried too, and "your idea didn't pan out."

A five-sided hole

The lock in the door has a five-sided hole in it. "That thing actually has a pentagon," and Basket hopes to take the panel back out, but it is "stuck on there now." Maybe "the keypad doesn't work without something in the door."

So Basket walks the walkways and buildings looking for anything not yet picked up. A bridge is still out, with nothing in reach "to put the bridge down." The commentary's best guess is that "somehow we have to power up that symbol" to get in.

Where it ends

Near the end the blue crystal torch goes into the holder on the rock, then the orange one goes back in. Back at the door: "with our cool torch you can see the secret writing on this door." The last view is the panel in dim light, its line still faintly there, and the video cuts to the end card with the panel unsolved and the door closed.
