Lesson Learned: Let's Play Minecraft Hardcore S1 Episode 7

  • Published on

Episode 7 picks up inside the mineshaft Basket started last time. It's a long, wide shaft with ladders up one side, and the ladders ran out before it got deep enough. "I wanted to go down to about maybe 10," Basket says. So the first job is the climb back up and out, at night, which Basket admits is "a little dangerous."

Back at the base

Up in the walled treetop base, Basket puts the iron ore in the furnace and crafts more ladders "to finish off the mineshaft. So I can get down and get to the good stuff." A stone pickaxe gets made too, and the buckets come along "just in case we run into lava." Then it's bed. "And now it's morning and the clouds are in my house." Back on the jungle floor, the trapdoor over the shaft is right where Basket left it, next to a torch.

Down to level 10

Most of the dig goes by in fast motion. On the way there's a small iron vein. "Let's see how big this vein is. Looks like that's it. Better than nothing." Basket fills the hole back in "so everything looks all nice" and keeps going. "Okay, now we're at level 10. I don't know exactly why I chose 10." There's more iron right at the bottom, and a plan: branch mining, to "find some diamond and some lava so we can build a portal."

Redstone, and no iron pickaxe

Basket clears out a small room and starts a tunnel. "I don't hear any sounds yet, so I guess there's no caves or lava or water around me yet." Then red specks show up in the stone. "Oh, and a redstone. Look at this." The stone pickaxe can't take it, though. "I don't have an iron pickaxe yet, so that I will leave there." There's "a bunch of redstone that I should really mine up," so Basket decides to go up and make one. "I'll see you at the top!"

The climb

The climb is long. Basket goes up the ladders past the torches, almost to the trapdoor and the jungle above. Right at the top, the view tips back and Basket drops down the shaft. The next screen says "Game over!" with "You cannot respawn in hardcore mode!" under it. In hardcore, that ends the world.

Lesson learned

Basket names the mistakes on the spot: "So lesson learned, one, interrupting your ladder with a, oh man, interrupting your ladder with a gate, a trap door, building a big long mineshaft that's too wide. Not a good idea." And then, plainly: "I died, that sucks." The game goes back to the title screen, where the splash text reads "Nice to meet you!" Basket's goodbye to the world: "It was nice to meet you." That's the end of Season 1.
