Season 2 starts in a brand new world. "I decided to start season two," Basket says, and looks back on how the first one went: "it ended pretty shortly into the process. I fell down a very tall mineshaft, so hopefully this time I do a little better." It's hardcore again, and Basket starts with nothing in an oak forest, punches out some logs and crafts a crafting table and the first wooden tools. The plan is loose: collect resources, "become sort of a nomad to start with," and find a spot worth building in, ideally an extreme hills biome. The long goal hasn't changed: "make it into the End and actually kill the Ender Dragon."
Hills, coal and stone tools
Past the trees the land opens into grass and hills. "Sheep, okay, that's good. We'll get some wool for a bed." Basket climbs the hills "to see if we can spot some sort of terrain that looks inspiring," then finds a small cave in the slope with coal in the walls. "These wood ones aren't cutting it really." Out come stone tools and a furnace. The torches cost more than planned: they take every last piece of coal. "Oh my goodness." With no coal left for cooking, Basket burns wood instead, turns logs into charcoal and cooks the beef into steak.
Nightfall and a skeleton
The sun starts to go down, and this first cave is "a little bit too open to stay the night." There's another cave right beside it. "Looks like a safer cave maybe." Then: "Not very safe." A skeleton waits in the torchlight, and Basket goes at it with the wooden sword. It drops arrows and bones, and the worn wooden sword gets swapped for a stone one "before it breaks."
A creeper gets too close
Basket wants to heal before going deeper, and then: "oop, creeper." It comes up out of a dark passage below a torch, and Basket spots iron in the wall at the same moment. Basket swings, and the creeper blows up right in front of the sword, knocking the health bar down to under half. "Getting a little reckless, but I guess that's more exciting to watch." The next few steps are slower: "I'm a little bit nervous about hitting another skeleton right now, because I don't have very much health."
A safe corner and some iron
Basket lights up the tunnels as they go, hits a dead end, and decides "this is a pretty safe area." Outside it's "probably midnight right now," Basket guesses. Coal comes out of the walls, the stone pickaxe replaces the wooden one, and the iron near the fork gets mined. One tunnel turns out to lead back outside, so Basket blocks it off: "it's going to overkill, but it's okay." Back in the corner the furnace goes to work on the iron. "Hopefully this will be enough. We can make some armor." The first season still stings a little: "If I would have died like in combat it would have been one thing, but I died from falling off a ladder. I felt pretty, pretty goofy."
Next time
There's no base yet. Basket once built a tower base into an extreme hills biome in another single-player world and wants something "equally fun to build into. If not, then I can always just build a regular cobblestone building." The episode ends with Basket alive and back to full health in the blocked-off corner of the cave, with iron in the furnace and armor next on the list.
