The title card reads "Minecraft Hardcore Challenge June 2013," with "E05" in the corner. Basket climbs the ladder out of the cave right at sunrise. Not much has grown overnight.

Checking the hoppers

The first chores are small ones: smelting, clearing out a crowded inventory, and laying cobblestone slabs over the water so nothing gets dropped in it.

Michael Deering, the host, had asked about the hoppers in the chicken pen, and Basket goes to take a look. There's an egg sitting in one already. "These each have five spots each, and so when they lay eggs it'll go into the middle." The two hoppers point at each other, so an egg ends up in one of them either way. Basket feeds seeds to two of the chickens to breed them. "So now we'll have another chicken going there."

A better front door

"I feel a little bit unsafe." Basket smelts more iron and puts on an iron helmet, but keeps the gold chestplate, "just because it's sort of unique." Next on the list is the entrance. Another entrant had shown a gate design, and Basket builds a version of it: a fence gate on the outside and a wooden door behind it, with smooth stone smelted for the job. Basket adds a tweak so that one action "will actually close both." The point, as Basket puts it, is that "the zombies can't knock down all your stuff, but you also are protected from other things shooting at you."

Out at the farm, the pumpkins are doing better than they need to. "My sugar cane supply and eggs aren't really caught up."

Up to the top

Basket would like to pick a spot for a real house this episode, so the next job is a ladder shaft straight up through the hill. Basket keeps the ladder two blocks short of the top while digging, in case gravel falls and breaks it. By the time Basket breaks through, it's night. "But it's a good view." From up there the whole area is laid out below: the trees, the river, the little farm. "So I could flatten the top of this and then build on it maybe? I don't know." There's also "an enderman over there I don't want to mess with," so Basket heads back down.

"I didn't plan out this episode as well as I usually do." Basket makes another pumpkin pie, drops off the junk in the chest, and climbs down the ladder for the mine. "I should have made an iron sword."

Water, lava and a ravine

Underground, Basket tries to dig lower than last time. There's more iron, more redstone and plenty of lava, but no diamonds. "I really want to find diamond. That would be very nice." The caves keep throwing water around, and Basket spends a while blocking up flowing water, fighting the currents.

Then the tunnel opens into a ravine. Basket shuts off the water there, eats a pie, and walks the floor beside a long pool of lava, pouring water over parts of it to leave obsidian to walk on and putting torches up on the walls. "Oops. I almost lost my water bucket. I can't believe there's no diamonds yet."

A zombie at the alarm

"Oh, I heard that." A zombie comes walking across the obsidian, and Basket trades hits with it, stone sword out. Right then the timer goes off. "Oh, and there goes the alarm." The game pauses with the zombie still close by and Basket alive, plan already set: "We'll go ahead and explore this ravine in the next episode and hopefully there's some diamonds." The end card follows with no gameplay after it.
