Day four of Michael Deering's July 2014 challenge was supposed to be over. It wasn't. The episode opens with the correction: "I goofed. It's actually half a day. That was sunset, not sunrise." The rules say one episode is one Minecraft day, so the leftover night gets its own short episode, 4.5. The rest of the rules still stand: no armor, no swords or bows, no meat, and Basket and Sayulily both have to survive.
Stock-take at the temple
First comes "a little big inventory dance" to remember what they're carrying. Basket's inventory has diamonds, mushrooms, melon and a lava bucket. Some gold ore goes in the furnace ("it never hurts to have more gold"), and the chests are full enough that "we're putting chests inside chests."
There are sixteen cocoa beans, so cookies go on the menu. "Everyone else has had cookies and we already have mushroom stew, so why not."
Three diamonds short
The goal for the half day is the enchanting table. "We need three more" diamonds, so Basket heads down the stairs, past the Nether portal, and starts a branch mine. Over the call there's a plan for the other half of the night, "that auto harvester, the button press harvester thing," which turns out to need a piston and more iron than expected. "Do we really only have two iron?" Then: "I found nine more in this furnace down here."
The mine is mostly stone and dark tunnel, and then lava. "There's lava above my head." "Don't die, Basket!" "I'll go this way instead."
Cookies for luck
Sayulily comes down the tunnel to find Basket, and afterward cookies show up in Basket's inventory. "And eight cookies for luck." Basket's pickaxe is close to breaking, so a new iron one gets crafted on the spot, and the digging goes on. Torches go up, a stone shovel clears the dirt, but the diamonds stay hidden. "These diamonds don't want to show up." "They're camera shy, as most diamonds are."
Morning, for real this time
"I hear a skeleton burning. Let me check the time real quick." The answer: "it looks like it is morning." Basket walks back up the tunnel to the portal room, and Sayulily, nameplate showing, turns up there too. "Welcome to Walking Down Steps... In this episode, we walk down steps."
The two sign off side by side in front of the portal. No diamonds this time, so the enchanting table waits. Both players are alive at dawn with no death on screen, and the end card follows with no gameplay after it.
