Day four of Michael Deering's July 2014 challenge picks up in the Nether, where day three left Basket and Sayulily. "We're in the nether." The rules haven't changed: no armor, no swords or bows, no meat, and both of them have to make it.
One more look for a fortress
The plan is the same as yesterday, a Nether fortress, with one limit: stay close to the portal. "We don't want to go too far away. So as a result, we probably won't find one, but we could take a look still." The skins don't help when they split up for a second. "It's hard with these skins because they can't see which way, like it's hard to see where your head is."
Torches have run out, so the trail home gets marked with "little netherrack fillers" instead. Someone on the call reports, "I just saw a magma cube somersault into the lava. Apparently it's a pool party and we weren't invited." There's an offer to declare war on the pigmen just for fun, and it gets shelved fast: "We're only four episodes in." No nether wart turns up either, so "no potions. At least, probably not."
A ghast overhead
Then a ghast drifts in over the cavern. "All of a sudden I had a leg spike and then you were freaking out and then I heard the noise." One of them drops lower: "I'm safe down here." Getting back means walking past the zombie pigmen again. "Oh, there's two of them. Yikes. That was pretty close." They reach a torch and recognize it: "This is where we started this episode, rather."
Fire on the netherrack
Near home, the shooting starts again. "It didn't make a noise but it definitely shot at us." Fires burn on the netherrack around Sayulily, with zombie pigmen close by, and the lava lake beside them "for miles, so don't fall in." One of them sprints back to the shelter by the portal and lands on a bridge rather than in the lava. "That was a close one. That was exciting."
Basket makes mushroom stew from the haul, and that settles it: "too much excitement for one day."
Back through the portal
The cobblestone walls from day three are still around the portal, and the two step back through to the overworld and the mine below the temple. The next idea is diamonds for an enchanting table, so they start a strip mine. It doesn't get far. "Oh I found lava, careful," and there's no water bucket on hand.
Sunset, not dawn
The clock catches up with them: "I guess we've been over for two episodes or something because it is rising dawn right now." The next episode reveals that this was sunset, not sunrise. Day four is done. The pair climb the stair shaft to the top and squeeze into one spot for a third-person sign-off. "Very, very tight cramped corners for bumping shoulders."
Both players are alive at the end of day four, back in the overworld, with no death on screen. The end card follows, with no gameplay after it.
