Day six of Michael Deering's July 2014 challenge picks up where day five ended, inside the second jungle temple, whose chests gave up nothing but bones and rotten flesh. That was phase one. Phase two is "something a little bit different": "We are going to try to link up these two temples via a portal." The rules still stand: no armor, no swords or bows, no meat, and Basket and Sayulily both have to survive.
Digging for lava
A portal needs obsidian, and obsidian needs lava, so the first job is a shaft straight down. Basket digs the shaft, and the iron and coal along the way are left for "clean up duty." The shaft keeps breaking into caves. "I don't want to do too much cave exploration," one of them says, and the openings get blocked up. "We claim this in the name of Sayulily and Basket. You can no longer pass."
The caves don't stay quiet. A zombie wanders up the tunnel, a skeleton gets an ambush ("We can ambush him. Charge!" "Oop, I almost hit you"), and then: "Oh my god, two creepers. You okay?" Everyone is. Past all that sits what they came for. "Lava pool, actually. So this will be the way we can go."
Building the portal
With water buckets and a lot of care, the lava turns to obsidian one block at a time. Not every block goes where it should ("I put one too high"), and a misplaced pour of lava turns into obsidian on its own. "That's okay though." With the frame done, the flint and steel comes out, and the purple fills in. They step through, and the new portal links up on the Nether side. "Alright, yep, it linked up. So we're back home."
The other way in the Nether
While they're there, they try the one direction they haven't been. "So I'll try not to die this time." "Or nearly die this time." The Nether has, by one count, three interesting things, "lava, I love a soul sand, netherrack," and they pass plenty of all three, plus glowstone overhead. "There's like a ghast party."
Tunneling wears the tools down. "Picks break too easy in the Nether." A crafting table goes down on the netherrack for a fresh pickaxe, and they dig through to look out over a lava lake. "From my vantage point, I can't really see anything at all." Nothing new turns up, so they follow their torches back and take the portal home.
Strip mining at home
The day isn't over yet: "We got five minutes." Basket goes back to strip mining. "I hear lava around me. Oop, and a creeper dying." Then, just as the sun comes up: "Oh, I found diamonds, look at that." The count on the call is "looks like five."
Diamonds in hand
Basket walks back to the portal room with seven diamonds in the hotbar. "Hey, look, it's a diamond basket." The two stand together by the portal to sign off, and the plan for next time is simple: "I look forward to the Enchant Table in the next episode."
Both players are alive at the end of day six, with no death on screen, and the end card follows with no gameplay after it.
