Iron Hunt: MHC Save the Village, Again Episode 3

  • Published on

Day three of Michael Deering's May challenge starts with the village in decent shape. The fence is up, the doors are on, and the villagers freed at the end of the last episode are walking around. "I think we have six, if I'm not mistaken." What the two players don't have is armor. So today is about iron.

A party in the cave

Basket grabs some wood first ("I use it all up on the fence") and heads for a cave near the village. It doesn't stay quiet for long. A creeper turns up, then a group of zombies comes down the tunnel, and Basket and FriarNurgle fight them off. One of the zombies drops a carrot. "Guess what we need." With no armor, it's a reminder to be careful.

Wood, not cobblestone

The cave pays off quickly. "Iron and coal, nice, jackpot," as it's put on the call. The trouble is the hotbar. Somebody came down with only wood for blocking off mobs: "I don't have cobblestone on my bar." Then, "I hear, uh, lava, actually." Up top, the talk on the call turns to grabbing wheat and breeding some cows, since nobody has seen a chicken yet.

Staying down after dark

Basket goes back underground, and when it starts getting dark, there's a question of whether to come up. The answer on the call is no: "Technically, I am still in the village." So the caving goes on.

Basket builds a furnace right there in the cave and smelts the first iron, and chat lights up with Hot Topic and then Acquire Hardware. An iron pickaxe follows. There's gold too. "Two gold, I think."

Water above, lava below

Deeper in, water pours down from overhead and the tunnel drops toward lava. Basket lights up the top of the drop and picks up the iron first, so a fall wouldn't mean losing it. At the bottom is a lava pool, and no water bucket to deal with it. "Usually I'm equipped with a water bucket when I do these kind of things."

Back in the village, the night report on the call is a calm one: "All the zombies seem to like this one corner over here."

Home at dawn

Basket climbs out in the dark and runs back to the village with four gold and a bunch of iron. A clock is off the table for now, though, because there's no redstone. The iron goes into the village furnace, and the rest goes into a chest.

At sunrise they talk about pushing the fence out to take in more of the village, and about the library. "We lost, I think three, probably." That number comes from the call, not the screen. Armor is the plan for next time. The last gameplay is the two players standing together in the village in the morning light, and the sign-off: "This is the end of day three." The end card follows, with no gameplay after it.
