Day three of Survival Island, Michael Deering's March 2016 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, where the special rule is not to leave the island vicinity. Basket logs back in underground near the zombie spawner. "I don't remember what I was up to, I was guessing I was trying to kill these guys." Basket has watched more 1.9 footage since last time and explains the sweep attack: the main target takes full damage, and the mobs around it take about half a heart each. Since it should be morning, the plan is to go up top and plant the seeds from the spawner chests.
A farm on the island
Up the shaft and back on the grass, Basket finds the crafting table got left downstairs, so a new one goes down along with two furnaces to cook the gold and iron. Basket chops trees but leaves the giant ones alone, "because it's a pain in the butt," and plants saplings. Then the bone meal goes on the new seeds. The beetroot comes up first, and Basket figures it's "probably better than rotten flesh." A melon block grows by the water too.
Back into the caves
Basket drops back down the shaft and closes it off behind. At the bottom, Basket sets up a "hoppy puzzle" so mobs can't just walk up, with a block to hop on to get out. A zombie comes in, then a skeleton that doesn't seem to see Basket yet. "Alright, got him." Basket mines iron "in case we want to get anvil for our fishing book which I probably will never use," plus gold and lapis, and eats more rotten flesh along the way. The shield still gets in the way. "This shield is definitely blocking my field of view."
Five diamonds
Then Basket spots diamonds down below, sitting right next to a pool of lava. Basket leaves the lava alone for now, in case it's needed for a Nether portal, and mines out five diamonds.
That's enough for an enchanting table, but there's a catch: no book. Basket guesses structures are turned off, so there are no villagers to trade with. The other idea is fishing for leather, but there's only one string so far. Basket remembers a spider dungeon from other entrants' videos but never wrote down where it was. The redstone node is huge, so Basket takes some and leaves the rest.
Water on the lava
Deeper in, Basket finds a lake of lava with zombies near it. "Let's let him die first," Basket says, then blocks the lava off. Later, the water bucket goes over a lava pool, and the lava hardens into obsidian. With the pickaxe about to break, Basket backs up, puts down a crafting table and makes a new one. "Look at that, everybody." A skeleton shows up and Basket gets the shield up in time. "Oh look at that, I blocked. I'm so good at this game."
Basket also notes the rotten flesh "is actually lasting quite a while."
End of day three
The tunnel Basket is following looks like a dead end, and then the alarm goes off. Basket switches to third person for a look: full iron armor, shield in hand, standing on obsidian. "Ooh, I got my shield, cool."
The plan for next time is to go upstairs, look for that spider spawner, do some fishing, and get an enchanting table running. Day three ends with Basket alive and at full health, underground on the obsidian. The credits roll after that, with no gameplay after them.
