Episode 7 opens with "GopherCraft SMP" over Mount BasketMC and a title card reading "Episode 7." This one is a giveaway. Basket is in the basement of Basket Tower, standing on a cube of coal ore with torches around the edge, and the prize is shown on screen: a Minecon 2013 avatar cape for the Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft.
A thousand blocks of coal ore
The basement is a tall, dark stone hall with a waterfall pouring down beside a stone brick staircase. The cube in the middle is ten by ten by ten, so a thousand blocks of coal ore, and Basket has a Fortune III pickaxe for it. The contest is simple: guess how much coal comes out. Plain coal, Basket stresses, "not coal blocks."
No peeking
To keep it fair, Basket opens the inventory before starting: the main slots are empty, with only tools and a few stacks in the hotbar. Basket never did the math on how much the cube would drop, so if the inventory fills up, the trip to a chest will happen off camera. The beacon used to stand here too, Basket mentions, but it has been moved.
Mining it down
The mining is sped up to music. Layer by layer the cube shrinks, with coal popping out of each block and the waterfall and staircase coming back into view over the top of what is left.
"So there you have it. That was 1,000 coal ore blocks." Basket admits the inventory did fill at some point, which is a hint in itself. One more tip for anyone counting frame by frame: on this server, items on the ground clump together into a single stack, so slowing the video down will not show every piece. Text on screen gives the closing time, January 22, 2014 at 8:00 AM EST, and the closest guess wins.
Endermen in the basement
With the cube gone, the hall is a flat stone floor scattered with torches, and not empty. "Oh, I got a bad guy coming," Basket says, and then, "apparently there was two enderman." Basket did not look at them, notes a slime as well, and steps into the water "just in case." The episode ends with Basket at the waterfall by the staircase, and the end card, with credits and the contest terms, runs to the last frame.
Contest results
A week later, on January 22, 2014, a short contest-results video went up. The cube dropped 1,981 coal, and the closest guess was 1,982, just one off. A viewer won the cape.
