Episode 9 opens with "GopherCraft SMP" over Mount BasketMC, then a title card reading "Episode 9, Sorting System" over Basket's character on the stone brick staircase beside the waterfall. The whole episode is a tour of the item sorter under Basket Tower, flaws included.
A cleaner basement
Basket has started cleaning up. With the beacon and "my really cool picks," a lot of the dirt and stone down here is gone. Basket points out the layers: the zombie grinder below, an item elevator that runs all the way up, and a branch mine under that. The brick still has to be extended down, each floor built, and a front door will connect out to a bridge someday. This episode is about the sorter instead.
Two flaws in the first version
The sorter now has item frames over the chests and a lot of hoppers, thanks to the iron golem farm. One section takes cobble, another dirt, and the iron and gold slots send ore down to a smelting system and bring the ingots back.
It did not all work. Where the row steps in and out, a powered sorter would jump its signal onto the one next to it, so now eight chests run off one sorter instead of two groups of four. The bigger problem: "I just sort of misremembered the schematic." Each line should have been three long. When the cobble filled up, the signal reached the iron sorter, which "thought that the iron was full," and it started sending all the iron, along with the placeholder items, down to the smelter. Basket had to break a piece to stop it. Anything that cannot be sorted ends up in a bank of 16 miscellaneous chests at the end, which also catches overflow.
Partway through, Max_Writer says goodbye in chat, Basket answers "take care!", and Max_Writer leaves the game.
Snowballs instead of widgets
After a cut, the fix is in. The chests never had to move. Basket used some spare space below to lengthen each line, with two repeaters underneath. The filler items changed too. The hoppers used to hold a placeholder whose tooltip reads "Widget"; now they hold snowballs, "the thing that's taking up space that won't go through the system." A separate snowball sorter sits ahead of everything else, so a stray snowball gets dumped before it can upset the rest. Some quirks remain. One item tends to sit in a hopper, and once the miscellaneous chests lost their snowballs and filled up with everything: "at one point I thought I was actually losing stuff."
Furnaces on lava
Both rows of furnaces are hooked up now. Items to cook go in one chest, and lava buckets fill the hoppers that fuel the furnaces, so things start cooking right away. Through a Nether portal there is a second item elevator, where Basket collects lava and sends the buckets up into chests. "I don't have to use any coal."
The glass item elevator is gone, swapped for one made of droppers. Items clump together on this server, and Basket suspected some were getting lost in the glass. The new one is safer but laggy.
Carts from the branch mine
At the very bottom, Basket tosses in stone bricks to show them cycle up the dropper shaft. Basket plans to enclose it, in the hope that hiding the lighting updates will cut the lag. Below that is the branch mine, where the beacon now sits. Minecarts with chests roll over to hoppers, which dump everything into water and into the system.
"It's not the quickest thing," Basket says, but it works, and future automated farms can drop into the same shaft. Next up, Basket expects, is the Ender Ender. The episode ends on Basket's character at the foot of the staircase by the waterfall, and the end card runs to the last frame.
