Wheat Farm and More: GopherCraft SMP S1 Episode 11

  • Published on

Episode 11 opens with "GopherCraft SMP" over Mount BasketMC, then a title card reading "Episode 11, Wheat Farm and More" over Basket's character on the roof of Basket Tower. Basket calls it "a big huge summary" of a week or two of work, from the top of the tower to the bottom, then out to the End.

A taller tower

A few trees grow on the new roof level. Their saplings do not drop often, so Basket keeps them up here for now. Down the middle of the staircase runs a column of lava behind iron bars, chosen so the beacon, once it is back, "will actually be able to shine through all the lava."

A column of lava encased in iron bars rising beside stone brick stairs, with a torch on a ledge and the night sky above

Quartz pillars with torches now support the middle stairs, since without the torches the light level is "too dark and the monsters will spawn." One level has no plan yet, and the next will be the library. Basket is thinking about a railing on the bridge down to the Ender Ender so nobody falls in by accident.

Cows and trees

Further down is the cow pen, around 200 to 250 cows by Basket's guess. The library will need a lot of leather, so Basket breeds them while few people are online and then culls them with a Looting III sword. The Tab list here shows Steel_Douglas and a second player on the server.

Lower still is a tree farm among birch trees, with dispensers that fire bone meal when Basket steps on a trigger. Bone meal is short, and some saplings that should have grown did not; Basket suspects the dispensers are in the way.

The wheat farm

The title build sits on the old zombie spawner: level after level of wheat, each with water dispensers and hoppers, all wired to one button. Press it and the water fires twice, washing most of the crop into the hoppers. The top level's water does not reach as far, and the repeaters look fine. "I'll have to debug that."

Wheat and logs meet at the bottom in a minecart bound for the item elevator. It should fill before it leaves and empty before it returns, but one side sends it off with only a couple of items. Basket tries to rewire it on camera, runs short of redstone and goes for more. Then a black card: "I gather up some red stone and other supplies, struggle to make it function the way I want, then after a long time realize my approach is completely wrong and decide to scrap the plan for now." Shortly after, Steel_Douglas leaves the game.

The bottom floor

At the bottom is a mob spawning room, a proof of concept with two platforms and a tripwire that knocks mobs off. It gives "a tiny bit" so far. Covering the item elevator cut the lag from torch light updates. Next up: more cows, a piston door idea, and the library or the main floor.

Pearls at the Ender Ender

In the End, the Ender Ender's bottom floor now has chests signed for food and supplies, iron donations for future anvils, and book donations. Upstairs, hoppers run under both sides of the spawning floor.

Overflow runs to an item sorter, where a dropper shoots extra pearls out and anything else lands in a chest for anyone who dies up there. A few stray items have turned up in it; Basket guesses someone threw cobble or rotten flesh into a hopper. Basket throws seeds into the "Ender Pearl Trash Only" spot to show they reach that chest. Some pearls still slip past, "not positive why." The episode ends on Basket's character among the chests and bookshelves of the bottom floor, and the end card runs to the last frame.
