Basket's Beats: GopherCraft SMP S1 Episode 12

  • Published on

After the "GopherCraft SMP" intro over Mount BasketMC, a title card reads "Episode 12, Basket's Beats" over Basket's character on a stone walkway in the rain. This is Basket's skeleton spawner, found on the first day of the server, and it now has a new job: making music discs.

Creepers for records

Creepers spawn out past a platform. Basket lures them in, they cross a tripwire, and a sticky piston drops them into a hole. In the base below, Basket stares at them down a long tunnel while a skeleton on the far side shoots them. When no skeleton stands on its pressure plate, lights come on in a nearby room, leaving the spawner's spot as the only dark place for a new one. When the creepers die, Basket picks up gunpowder and more discs for a chest that already holds plenty.

Bones by minecart

The rest of the skeletons that spawn drop down an item elevator, and their drops shoot through a nether portal. On the far side, a hopper minecart waits until it fills to a set amount, then rides a rail up toward Basket's main tunnel to an unloading station. The unloading station is "a much smaller design" than the one in Basket's base. While Basket is down here, chat shows Steel_Douglas leaving the game, then joining again.

A shop shaped like a disc

The shop goes up at spawn, across from the barn and next to the cemetery. Basket's plan: build it "in the shape of a record," so from above it looks like a disc, with discs for sale and for rent. The build plays out in fast motion from high above spawn. A ring of dark walls goes up around a gray and white floor with a red center, and the roof gets the same pattern as day turns to night.

Rent or buy

"Here is Basket's Beats." At the entrance, string runs under the carpet, so monsters do not see a path inside. A couple of jukeboxes let people listen to the music. The cheapest discs, including cat, 13 and 11, rent for one gold per week or sell for one diamond, and the next tiers cost five and then ten. An ender chest lets people grab their money. The payment chest is a trapped chest that makes a little noise when money goes in, and downstairs that payment sets off a few note blocks. For now it makes "random-ish noises." A couple of plain chests down there give Basket some storage at spawn, since the armor shop has no room for it.

The roof

Up top, the red center matches a disc, probably blocks by Basket's guess, and the colors can be swapped out later. Every wool block on the roof has carpet on top, which Basket hopes will stop lightning from burning the building down, though "I guess that could be wrong." More discs still sit back at the spawner. The episode ends with a third-person shot of Basket in the doorway under the Basket's Beats sign, then the end card runs to the last frame.
