Episode 2 picks up where the first one stopped: Basket, 8ong8ong and pikerize deep in a cave of lava, water and obsidian. They mine while they talk. Over voice they count lapis, call out gold on the ceiling and spot "at least four diamonds" up a wall.
The first death
A few minutes in, chat posts the season's first death: "erynfaith was blown up by Creeper." A row of "gg" follows from players across the server, Basket included. Then a yellow line: "Soul Crusher will wake in 2 minutes!"
This is the season's rule at work. Every death gives everyone a two-minute warning, and then the border closes in. The team is close to the edge, so the mining stops. They backtrack to grab what they left on the way and stair-step up to the surface.
Running from the border
Topside, the team crafts what it can: chestplates and iron swords for everyone. They knock apples out of the trees while they wait for everyone to come up. Then the red text arrives: "Soul Crusher is coming!" and "(The World Border is shrinking 95 blocks over 5 minutes)." On voice, the news lands softer than expected: "Oh, it's only 95 blocks, that's not as bad. But it's coming."
They head away from the wall across open grassland, gathering sugar cane and leather as they go and keeping clear of the extreme hills. Basket earns the Cow Tipper achievement on the way. Another "Soul Crusher will wake in 2 minutes!" warning shows up in chat, and the plan changes. The idea is to dig down and stair-step toward the wall, "that way if it's shrinking on us, then we have somewhere to run." With the border about to move again, they push a little farther first, out toward a peninsula.
A new cave
Night comes. A cave across a river looks good, and they use a water bucket to drop in. The border moves in again soon after. Down below there is iron in almost every direction, plus a lot of dead ends.
The team builds a wall of six furnaces and starts cooking iron and food. Chat stays busy. NewaZusa writes, "i thought you'd be stuck in the soul crusher," and Epic_Swampert answers, "It tickles a little." A bit later Epic_Swampert adds, "'Soul Tickler' doesnt sound as threatening though."
Fully ironed
Iron goes in, armor comes out. Pants, then boots, then helmets for all three. "So we are fully ironed," one of them sums up.
Next on the list is obsidian for an enchanting table. They need four blocks, and the team now has a diamond pickaxe to mine them. The lava they find in this cave is only small patches, so they keep exploring and pick up more iron along the way.
Toward the surface at dawn
One branch of the cave opens up to the surface. The plan is to wait for dawn, go up and head toward the middle. Someone checks the iron count: "We have 33 right now. We don't have enough for an enchanter, an anvil yet."
Then the server posts "End of Day 2. Players remaining:" with 20 names, BasketMC among them. erynfaith is the only player gone so far. Basket is alive and in full iron with the orange team when the episode ends.
