Batteries, Episode 7: Factorio Season 2

  • Published on

Episode 6 of Season 2 ended with Battery in research and red chip assemblers waiting on plastic. Episode 7 picks up right there. In about half an hour, Basket finishes the red circuit line, holds off enemies along the wall with more turrets and an ammunition line, and builds a chain of chemical plants that ends in batteries. When the video ends, Robotics is researching and a spot for making engines is only planned.

Red circuits

The red circuit assemblers get their copper through a splitter, a belt and fast inserters. The plastic is going to be dropped off by hand, "because it is not close by," and the output goes "manually into the chest. The time being." Battery finishes in the research box a few minutes in. On the research screen, the sulfuric acid recipe needs sulfur, iron plates and water. The commentary remembers looking at it once before: "I saw that I need to have run like pipes and stuff and I was like oh never mind."

Trouble at the wall

Then something goes wrong out on the edge. "Oh and the red disappeared, hmm. And this ammo is out. It's a bad sign." The battery plans wait while belts, walls and turrets go along a stretch of wall "that I wasn't gonna do, but now I'm doing it." Some of the new turrets are loaded by hand. Later, more enemies show up: "That's not good, let's um, try and lure these guys down."

Hand-loading will not keep up, so an assembling machine goes in to make ammunition, fed with iron by a filter inserter and a splitter. "There we go, ammunition, not the fastest but whatever." The wall gets longer and more turrets go in. Even so, "I'm not making enough ammo for this line," and the turrets "don't have any ammo, that's part of the problem." After some repairs and more iron, the ammunition picks up. "Okay there we go, more ammo. Great."

Pipes and chemical plants

Back to batteries. Pipes come up from the water, with underground pipes so the line can be walked across. One chemical plant makes sulfur, another turns it into sulfuric acid, and a third is set to batteries. None of it was planned ahead: "So this actually needs water. I didn't really plan for that." The commentary calls the whole thing "sort of temporary" and expects a better base later.

Batteries

A filter inserter is set to pull only iron for the battery plant, and a splitter sends a second belt its way. It ends up one space off, so it moves. "So right now you're just gonna go into a chest. Whew, okay." Then: "So now we have batteries."

"What do I need for flight?" Advanced electronics 2 goes into research. A radar is crafted for a spot by the turrets. The next step is engines: "I've never done engines yet." They need steel, which is not on a belt nearby. "My base isn't set up very well." The commentary doubts flight will happen "by the end of the stream."

Where it ends

Advanced electronics 2 finishes, and Robotics starts. Splitters go in to send iron and copper down to an open patch of ground. The last line is "And we're going to make engines down there," and the video cuts away before any engine gets built.
