Episode 8 of Season 2 starts where Episode 7 stopped, with splitters sending iron and copper toward a spot for engines and Robotics in research. In under half an hour, Basket builds the parts that drones need, gets the first construction robots flying from a roboport, and sets up repair packs. When the video ends, Solar energy is researching, power is short, and the next upgrades are waiting on blue science.
Engines and lubricant
The engine assemblers go in first, fed with steel brought over by hand, plus gears and pipes. "Not very efficient," the commentary admits, but they work. Construction robotics goes into research. The next machines need green chips and lubricant, so a chemical plant goes in to make it. "I need to have a tank to store that stuff in because I'm not going to use it as fast." Fluid handling gets researched, and a tank goes in for the extra lubricant.
In the middle of this, things are being lost up top. "If it's just the walls it's not too bad." There is also a warning about turrets out of ammo, and after a look the commentary decides "Okay, all good."
Robot frames
The crafting menu shows what a flying robot frame needs: an electric engine unit, steel, electronic circuits and two batteries. The batteries are made "way up there." "So I guess for now I'm just going to manually carry the batteries down. I don't know why I made them all the way up here, but it's fine."
Automated construction starts researching. An assembler for frames goes in, with its output going into a chest, then one more machine for construction robots. Logistic robots are not unlocked yet. "Very crude drone creation."
Red chips for the next robots
"Other drones require advanced circuits." Those need plastic, so it gets carried over by hand again, into two new chests. One assembler turns out to have no recipe set yet: "Oh, and this thing isn't even programmed to it." That gets fixed.
Automated construction finishes. "Did I research this? Oh yeah, I finished it." Logistic robotics starts.
A roboport
The roboport goes in near the middle of the base, where the commentary plans to put "my main storage." Its construction area shows up as a big orange square on the ground. A deconstruction planner marks the trees around it for removal. "Yes, get rid of the trees. Perfect."
Repair packs and logistic robots
"I forgot about the whole repairing everything." The recipe window shows a repair pack takes one electronic circuit and one iron gear wheel, so an assembler pulls green chips and gears and makes them. "There you go, now you have repair things, go repair." Logistic robotics finishes, Character logistic slots 1 starts, and a few logistic robots get made with red chips. "I don't need to make a lot of them."
Where it ends
"What's our power like? We're having some power issues." Solar energy goes into research. The commentary wants a passive provider chest next, but that needs blue science, and science pack 3 in the crafting menu asks for a battery, an advanced circuit, a filter inserter and steel. The build radius is "not very big" either. The commentary sums it up: "We have drones up and running, sort of," but "first I need blue science." The stream ends there, with Solar energy still researching.
