This Season 2 stream on GopherCraft's multiplayer server opens on the Mun, where Space Bus 3 stands on its legs with three kerbals on the ground beside it. "This is the Success Crater bus stop." The job is to fly them home. Space Bus 3 gets them back to Kerbin, but the passenger section breaks away at splashdown and only three of the four aboard are recovered. Then Tatiana Kerman takes the same design back to the Mun and lands it 1.7 km from the tipped-over ship still sitting in the crater.
All aboard
The kerbals at the bus stop are Urene Kerman, Barchel Kerman and Jebediah Kerman, with Tatiana still in the pilot's seat. "These are three guys that I've walked all the way." The ship has a Hitchhiker container for passengers under a three-seat command pod, and the seating is planned for the worst case: "just in case this thing crashes and for some reason we lose this bottom part," Jebediah goes up top in the pod.
The rule for takeoff is "no spacebars allowed," so the throttle goes up by hand. Space Bus 3 lifts off, the engines cut once it is high enough, and a maneuver node rounds out an orbit around the Mun. "As long as we don't hit a mountain, we're fine."
Home the hot way
Setting a target takes a while ("Get all your junk out of my face"), but the burn for Kerbin goes through with fuel to spare. A small prograde push sets the low point of the orbit inside Kerbin's atmosphere, so the air can do the braking. "That is a thing that exists in the game." Near Kerbin the four side tanks and their engines drop away together, and the ship turns so its big heat shield faces forward.
The capsule comes in wrapped in flame. "Okay, well something just blew up. Oh, that was my, okay, that's my solar panel." The second panel goes the same way. The parachutes open at about 250 meters ("This is science") and the ship drifts down over open ocean.
Splashdown, minus one
Only the command pod sits in the water afterward. "The other part went away, so we did lose one person." The Mission Summary for Space Bus 3 lists five experiments, among them a surface sample from the Mun's midlands, for 112.5 science and a total of 269. Its crew tab shows three crewmembers recovered: Tatiana Kerman (Scientist), Barchel Kerman (Engineer) and Jebediah Kerman (Pilot). Urene is not on the list. "A hitchhiker pod itself doesn't really work out very well." A piece labeled Space Bus 3 Debris turns up afterward and is recovered too, with nobody in it.
Back to the crater
The commentary loads Space Bus 3 in the Vehicle Assembly Building again, takes the solar panels off and adds LT-2 Landing Struts. A viewer suggests a radial decoupler that sticks out further, but the commentary keeps the one that already works. Jebediah and Barchel come off the crew list, and Tatiana flies alone.
The boosters push it off the pad and the ship reaches orbit and heads for the Mun, slowing into a low orbit there. Before aiming the landing, the Tracking Station gets some cleanup. Two empty craft go with Terminate Mission: The Success 2008 XLT and one of two ships named The Success 2012 XLT. The other The Success 2012 XLT is the one that matters. It lies on its side on the Mun with its solar panels out, and the portraits show Magvy Kerman and Aldberry Kerman. The commentary counts three kerbals aboard.
Landing 1.7 km out
The first braking burn comes too late, and the landing point ends up far from the target. A burn upward and a fresh maneuver swing the path back toward the crater, and the empty tanks get dumped on the way down. "This is very intense everybody." Then it is the shadow wait again. Right at the end a stray press of the spacebar fires a stage, but it is a spare one. "See, that's why I do that." Space Bus 3 settles on its legs, and the marker reads The Success Crater XLT, 1.7 km away. "This is another successful and much closer landing."
Where it ends
The stream ends with Space Bus 3 parked on the Mun and Tatiana aboard, 1.7 km from the tipped ship. The plan in the commentary is to bring only two of its kerbals over, since the Hitchhiker may not survive another landing, and leave one behind. A viewer suggests hovering above the survivors next time so they can jump up. Space Bus 2 is still listed as orbiting Kerbin.
