Episode 25 of The Witness starts in a dark place of scaffolding, wooden walkways and glowing blue cables, where the panels are hard to even see. From there it goes to a cave of red panels that are solved by their reflections, fires a new laser across the island, and ends with a mirror dish sending that beam on.
In the dark
The video opens among scaffolds and walkways in deep shadow, with blue cables running between panels and green lights on the posts. "That one doesn't have any power yet," the commentary says, looking over what is solved and what is not. The plan for the next panel is to "change the water" and watch it "from far away" to "catch a reflection." That does not get far: "You can't really see a lot of it."
A dark blue panel of triangles on a wall gets one zigzag after another. "It does a zigzag up then down and then over and then what?" Later the commentary says "Only two more untried paths to the end," and soon after, a tunnel leads out of the dark.
Reflections in the cave
The tunnel ends in a cave of pink stone. Red grid panels stand over dark pools, and the line has to be worked out from what the water shows. "It's nice that we can actually see the reflection as we're doing it." The line lights orange: "Okay, so we've unlocked one of the latches."
The next grid sits behind wooden supports. "If you can't see it, you can't do it," and then, "Oh, you can do the back of it." Drawn from behind, the pattern has to be flipped: "Not only do we have to inverse it, but then also it's from a reflection." A tan line runs across the grid. One more panel has a part that can be angled, and then: "Yes! Shoot the laser."
A laser that misses
A lift carries Basket up out of the cave into the desert, where a yellow box on a wooden scaffold raises a laser and fires a beam across the island. Then the surprise: "You missed. What are you shooting at? It's not the tower." Basket follows the beam over the sand and through the woods to see where it goes. "All the other laser beams have gone to the exit, so I'm kind of curious where this is going." It points somewhere "in the middle of nowhere," and the commentary wonders if it is a bug.
The mirror dish
A second look shows the beam passing close to a big dish on a tripod, up a flight of stairs on a wooden deck. "As part of this I might have to actually make that thing rotate." A square panel set in the deck beside it is used to aim the dish. The first tries overshoot ("I missed. Too much"), and then the dish catches the beam and sends it on. "Now we have made progress."
Where it ends
With the beam redirected, the commentary wraps up, saying it wanted to finish off that part of the level. Basket walks down stone steps into the town and past a stone statue, and the video ends there.
